Never count Lady Gaga down or out. Controversy may have risen when her latest album, ARTPOP, failed to match the sales of her previous efforts and more recently when a performance artist proceeded to vomit on the "Applause" singer during her SXSW showcase in Austin, but the Grammy Award-winning pop star has jumped back into what she does best... creating aesthetically-stunning visuals to go along with equally brilliant pop/dance tracks.
Following "Applause" and "Do What U Want", Lady Gaga has officially chosen the sexually-charged, ultimate power bottom anthem, "G.U.Y", as the third ARTPOP single, set to hit radio airwaves in the next couple of weeks. To support one of the album's brightest standout tracks, Gaga created a piece of visual content that knows no boundaries. When do they ever? Featuring cameos from Bravo's Andy Cohen, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Michael Jackson and Jesus, the ARTPOP mini film also incorporates pieces of "ARTPOP", "Venus" and "MANiCURE" throughout.
While the complex story of the music video opens up with Gaga rising from the ashes after greedy businessmen literally shoot an arrow in her back, "a hybrid can withstand these things", hungry for the millions they have made because of the artist, the fallen phoenix stumbles to the entrance of the magnificent Hearst Castle in California. There, the music for "Venus" begins and scenes of Gaga's rebirth, with the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on deck as her musical muses, in the elegant pool are shown.
Gaga then strangely resurrects the likes of Michael Jackson, John Lennon, Gandhi and Jesus through the video game Minecraft in order to harness their blood to create the perfect guy (G-U-Y). Gaga, along with her new g-u-ys, Lisa Vanderpump and Kyle Richards infiltrate her "record label" headquarters with money cannons in hand to do some necessary replacement of the head executives at work. This leads to chaos, suggestive dance routines and a closing overlook shot of the entire castle as the credits begin to roll and "MANiCURE" starts to play.
The entire 12-minute music video has a lot of metaphors and underlying messages to take in and dissect, but the main element that has everyone talking is Gaga's beauty showcased in every single shot and the fact that it feels as if the artist is back on her A game, ignoring the criticism she has been receiving the past few months. "G.U.Y" is a good single choice and the music video is a real epic masterpiece that should go down as one of Gaga's best visual creations to date.
YAAAAAAAAS Gaga!!!
