SAVAGES
So this is quite far from Gossip Girl.....which is a good move for Blake Lively. Given that so many TV actresses/actors are type cast once they leave a successful show - think about it - Jennifer Aniston has always played, Rachel.
I wasn't really interested in watching this until someone showed me the promo for it and I noticed, there were a lot of really big names involved - too big. I settled down last night to watch it. I was actually impressed. Once you get over the fact that its Serena Van Der Woodsen having sex in the first ten minutes and doing drugs - hmmm, maybe this isn't different from Gossip Girl - you actually start to enjoy it.
The story is simple. It's your typical American drug crime story which means, you don't know who you can trust or who works for who. If you like other such films as Lock, Stock or the American attempts to copy it such as Alpha Dog, then you'll enjoy this. I did. I was actually interested and it had my attention the whole way through - and not just because one of the two guys is a fox!

PARANORMAN
I really enjoyed this. I love this sort of film! It's not exactly a complicated art movie but after watching Savages - it was just what I needed. Something I could relax and enjoy. If you had children, which I do not - then it's perfectly fine for them too. In fact, it might almost keep them quiet!
Basically the story is about Norman. A slightly nerdy kid who can see ghosts and talk to them. However no one else can and no one else believes him. It then turns out that Norman is the only person who can stop an evil witch from raising the dead on the anniversary of her death. I must admit that I didn't find this funny in a sort of Shrek fashion - as in adults getting a level of humor that children don't - but it was good.
I must admit that I still have five minutes to watch on this one - I paused it to get some work done but seriously - its not bad!

SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD
I really loved this film. It was funny, interesting and you really felt for the characters. It was also, incredibly sad and romantic. I am not normally one for romance at all - I cringe at stuff like that. I don't believe in romance so you can see why! However the boy is away right now and I was exhausted and needed something to curl up with. This was perfect. Keira Knightly is not always my cup of tea either - too many period dramas for my liking - but to my surprise - I didn't want to slap her.
My only complaint was the dog. Not a usual complaint for me but it seemed like he was placed there for the cheap awwwwwws and not much more. It was typical American movie stuff really. Not enough of a cute-sy factor so throw in a puppy.
It's the end of the world as a giant meteor approaches and threatens to wipe out the world. During the countdown to the end of days, people struggle to spend time with their loved ones. Planes stop running and there are riots. Dodge is trying to get to his former love Olivia to tell her he never stopped loving her and Penny needs to get back to her family in the UK. Together they team up to try and get there.
I really did enjoy this one. Even if it was mad sad and a little over romantic for my usual tastes. It was, however, really enjoyable.
