Davis and Ms. Lewis have been on a social media rampage this year as they have repeatedly posted lurid and frightening allegations about the Sheriff on Facebook. The charges have been also transmitted through blast emails as numerous people can attest. They have called the Sheriff a pervert and a child molester. They said he got a fourteen year-old girl pregnant and that was just the beginning.
Sheriff Lewis filed suit and requested a temporary restraining order on June 22, 2015. All Hinds County Chancellors recused themselves on July 14. The Mississippi Supreme Court appointed James Bell to hear the case on July 20. A notice of hearing was not issued until August 20. Meanwhile, the Facebook posts and the slanderous emails continued unabated through Jackson's cyber-universe.
Here are some choice quotes from the order:
Sheriff Lewis contends Defendants conspired to commit unlawful acts, more specifically defamation, malicious prosecution, filing false police reports, extortion, cyber-stalking/bullying, among others. Second, Sheriff Lewis contends Defendants made false, unprivileged and defamatory statements about him to others and continued to post and repost them, and caused them to be posted and reposted by others. ....
It was stipulated by Defendant Tony Davis that he posted and republished the accusations of Defendants Lewis, Davis, and Nichols....
The evidence produced thus far shows the statements to be false. This initial view may change upon the production of evidence by the defendants, but for the purpose of this hearing for a temporary restraining order, the present weight of the evidence is that the statements are false...
The Defendant's posts were done within weeks of Sheriff Lewis's election. Sheriff Lewis argues these efforts were to negatively impact his election and to inflict irreparable harm to him. According to Sheriff Lewis, he continues to suffer great and irreparable harm.....
There is a substantial likelihood that the Plaintiff will prevail on the merits of this action...
the Plaintiff is granted a temporary restraining order enjoining the Defendants from harassing Plaintiff through the use of social media, any other electronic media, or in any other manner. Defendants shall not continue and reiterate the same and/or significantly similar statements found in this and prior proceeding to be false and libelous- in fact. Defendants shall remove any and all libelous statements from social media websites which are reflected in Exhibit "D", "E", and "H", of the complaint. More specifically, Defendants shall not continue to assert Tyrone Lewis is the father of Kristie Nichols and Shelia Lewis successfully divorced Tyrone Lewis.
Sheriff Lewis also issued this week subpoenas for depositions to Tony Davis, Kristie Nichols, and Tange Davis. Sheriff Lewis is represented by attorney Dennis Sweet.
